In my opinion, prices should be raised across the board, instead of producing additional types of parking lots. As you've said, it would filter out those who really want to drive and could afford to park from those who value their time less and wouldn't mind parking in "Park and ride." I'm with you in wishing that the increased revenue would go to increase parking capacity across campus, possibly even lowering the cost in the long run. Jokingly, I propose an unorthodox solution of bulldozing the University Square Mall. Lets turn half (or slightly more) into a football stadium, and the other half into a giant parking lot with monorails and dancing characters in funny costumes... ok maybe I got a bit off track.
